How MakeMyStory handles the information used to make personalised children's books.
When you create an account or a book, we process your account details, a child's name and age, uploaded photos, story choices, generated text and illustrations. A book can also include people you choose to add. Checkout and gift purchases generate payment and order records.
The service is for adults creating books for children. Do not upload a child's photo unless you are their parent or legal guardian and have the right to use it.
We use photos and story details to create and deliver your book, provide previews, operate your account, support purchases and respond to requests. We do not use your uploaded photos in our own model-training pipeline or for marketing without separate permission.
Before payment, you can see the story outline and available character or style previews. The written story and finished illustrated pages are generated after you confirm, choose a format and complete the purchase.
Book generation involves AI services for photo analysis, story writing, illustration and optional narration. The application integrates OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini and ElevenLabs. These providers receive the inputs needed for their part of the process; their own retention and processing terms also apply. Stripe processes payments, and our hosting and storage providers operate the service.
Provider configurations and contractual retention terms require periodic review. Please contact us if you need details about a specific provider before uploading a photo.
Photos and generated book files are stored in private storage. Access to files is checked against the signed-in account. Authorised service operations and support work may require limited access. We cannot promise that no person will ever access a file.
Book and child files remain available while you keep them in your account. You can delete a book or request account deletion. Account deletion can be delayed while a printed order is being fulfilled; failures are handled rather than treated as completed deletion. Some payment, audit and legal records may need to be retained separately.
Inactive, unpaid previews may be removed after 30 days when the cleanup process is enabled. We do not promise immediate or fixed 24-hour deletion, including from external provider systems or backups.
You can review your books and manage child profiles in your account. Account export and deletion tools are available in profile settings. For access, correction or deletion questions, contact us. Rights under privacy law depend on where you live.
Campaign source: if you arrive through a tagged link, we record the campaign labels in it, the referring website and the landing page, and save the first set with your account if you sign up. This contains no child details. We use it to understand which campaigns work, and, only if you accept on our public pages, Google Analytics measures page views and button clicks there (never behind sign-in). We also count anonymous clicks on “start a story” buttons without linking them to you.

Children do not create accounts or purchase books. An adult parent or guardian supplies the child's details and photo. Please contact us if you believe a child's information was uploaded without appropriate authority.
