Cookie Policy
How cookies and browser storage support MakeMyStory.
1. Essential storage
Authentication uses browser cookies to keep you signed in. The site also stores a country selection cookie so it can display relevant currency and shipping options. Blocking these may prevent sign-in or affect local pricing.
2. Campaign source
If you arrive through a tagged link (for example a social post), we keep a first-party cookie called mms_attr for 60 days. It holds only the campaign labels in the link (such as source and campaign name), the website you came from, and the page you landed on. It never holds your name, email, prompts or anything about a child. If you create an account, we save the first set of labels with your account so we can see which campaigns bring in readers. We do not share it with advertising networks. You can block or clear this cookie in your browser without affecting how the site works.
3. Analytics (with your consent)
On our public pages (home, ideas, examples, blog, pricing and sign-in pages) we ask whether we may use Google Analytics to see which pages are useful. It is off until you say yes, and your choice is stored in a cookie called mms_consent for 180 days. If you accept, Google sets its own cookies (_ga). We send only fixed event names such as which story-idea button was clicked, with the page address without any query string. Analytics never run on gift links, your account, the book wizard or your books, and we never send names, prompts, book details or anything about a child. Advertising features are disabled.
4. Preferences
Your browser may store display preferences such as theme choice. You can clear this storage in your browser settings.
5. Other services
Stripe may use its own cookies during checkout for payment and fraud prevention. Apart from the optional analytics above, we do not use third-party analytics or advertising cookies.
6. Your controls
You can clear or block cookies through your browser. Essential functions may stop working if you block them. For questions, use our contact page or read the Privacy Policy.
