Why this story

What it does for them

A new baby changes a child’s place in the family overnight, and the question underneath is rarely said out loud: is there still room for me? This story answers it with a job only they can do. The one who makes the baby laugh, who knows the silly song, who teaches them everything worth knowing.

The turning point belongs to your child. Grown-ups can cheer from the sidelines, but the click comes from something the big sibling notices or does, the way Pia works out the one lesson her brother actually needs. Children believe what they figure out for themselves far more than what they’re told.

Mixed feelings are allowed. A flash of jealousy or a cross face can sit on a page, briefly and with a smile, without turning it into a sad book. And it ends on what young children most need to hear: love doesn’t get divided, it gets bigger. Years from now, it’s the book that remembers how they became someone’s big sibling.

By age

How the story changes with age

  • Ages 2 and under

Very simple: there’s a baby now, and here’s what you can do that the baby can’t. Clap, wave, pull a funny face. Lines short enough to read in the middle of a feed.

  • Ages 3–5

Plenty to wonder about before the baby comes, a few lessons that go wrong in funny ways, and one that works. Pia’s book, made when she was four, is this kind.

  • Ages 6+

Room for real responsibility and honest mixed feelings, and a role that grows with them: today the helper, one day the best friend and partner in adventures.

Make it yours

The same moment, a hundred different stories

A few ways it could go. Yours starts with one sentence about your child.

  • Theo teaches his baby sister the family’s secret handshake, which mostly means her grabbing his thumb.
  • Twins are coming, and Mia has exactly two of everything ready.
  • A baby who arrives in winter, and a big brother who promises to save her the first snow.
  • Ezra’s baby brother is adopted, and his welcome-home banner took a whole week.
  • Big sister for the second time, and this time she’s the expert.

Before you start

Questions parents ask

Can the new baby be in the book before they’re born?

Yes. Add the baby as expected and the story builds toward the arrival. The baby appears only in the last pages, or not at all if you prefer. There are no pregnancy or hospital scenes unless you mention them.

Do we need a photo of the baby, or a name?

No. Choose newborn, a few months or nearly one, and whether the baby’s face shows or they’re tucked into a blanket. If there’s no name yet, or you don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl, the story simply says “the baby”. If you have a photo, you can add it.

Will the baby look the same on every page?

Yes. We settle on one look for the baby before any drawing starts (skin, hair, eyes and outfit) and keep it on every page.

How is this different from the big sister books in shops?

A shop book tells one fixed story to every child. This personalized new-baby book is written for your family: your child’s face and age, the baby’s stage, and a role that suits your child.

Their moment, their story

Add a photo and check the idea. Before you confirm, you will see where the story is heading, and you can ask for up to three changes.
