A personalised book from grandparents, about the time you share

A knock at the door, a job done hand over hand, a story from when they were small: the things they teach your child, and the things your child teaches them right back.

See where the story is heading before you confirm.

Why this story

What it does for them

Time with a grandparent runs at a different speed. There’s a lap, a doorstep or a slow walk that belongs to them and nobody else, and a kind of unhurried attention children rarely get anywhere else. This story is built from that, with the sounds and small rituals that make it theirs.

It goes both ways. Grandparents pass things down (a skill, a song, a story from when they were small), but the best stories let the child teach something back. Watching a grandparent lose at their game, or learn their trick, shows a child that love between generations is a conversation.

Not every grandparent is retired and waiting at home. Plenty work, travel or live a plane ride away, and the story can say so. Whether you see each other every Sunday or once a year, the book keeps them close between visits, and long after.

By age

How the story changes with age

  • Ages 2 and under

A knock, a hug, a lap and a song only they sing, with a refrain to say along. A gentle, rhythmic book that’s easy for a grandparent to read with a toddler on their lap.

  • Ages 3–5

One small job done hand over hand, or a well-used thing carried carefully, and a game where your child gets the better of them.

  • Ages 6+

A story from when the grandparent was little, a trade of skills where both are beginners, or letters that carry something small each way.

Make it yours

The same moment, a hundred different stories

A few ways it could go. Yours starts with one sentence about your child.

  • Ruby and Grandad fix the old bike in his shed, one squeaky part at a time.
  • Grandma lives in another time zone, so Omar saves up his news for their Sunday call.
  • A sleepover at the grandparents’ house, where bedtime is somehow later.
  • Sam learns Grandpa’s pancake flip, and Grandpa learns Sam’s dance.
  • Two grandmothers, two kitchens and one very full tummy.

Before you start

Questions parents ask

Can grandparents give this as a gift?

Yes. A personalized book needs a photo of the child, so the easiest way is a gift code: you buy it, send it to the parents, and they make the book with their own photo. Gift codes come in digital, soft cover and hard cover.

Can both grandparents be in it, looking like themselves?

Yes. Add each grandparent with a photo and they’re drawn to look like themselves on every page, or describe them in a few words instead. A book can include up to 3 added people.

What will the story call them?

Whatever your child calls them. Use that name when you add them, and the story uses it too.

Is there a day for it?

Grandparents Day falls in September in the US and Canada and on the last Sunday of October in Australia. This is a book that works any week of the year, though.

Can the story be about grandparents who live far away?

Yes. Mention the distance in your sentence and the story is built around it: video calls, letters and the countdown to the next visit. There’s also a separate Love From Far Away idea for anyone your child misses.

Their moment, their story

Add a photo and check the idea. Before you confirm, you will see where the story is heading, and you can ask for up to three changes.
